The 11 Most Racist Things That Happened In Pop Culture: 2014

Description:

The article that I chose talks about 11 of the most controversial racial issues that occurred in pop culture in 2014. It is a very interesting read, because I wasn't even aware of some of these major issues that took place. The article highlights many issues that are still apparent in society and reflects the ignorance of some people. It is a great read!

  1. It is astonishing how this article managed to cover a variety of racially based comments and instances within the media and what we consider to be "pop culture." I found it interesting how the author included a description of the incident as well as the perpetrator's reaction, such as Avril Lavigne's response to criticisms about her video "Hello Kitty," which portrayed stereotypes of Japanese women. I think that this article emphasizes how important it is to pay attention to the messages being put in the media around us because to some people these examples are not instantly identified as acts of racism.
